Crohn’s Disease is a type of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) that can affect any part of the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus, but most commonly impacts the end of the small intestine (ileum) and the beginning of the large intestine (colon). It causes inflammation, swelling, and damage to the bowel wall, which can lead to severe symptoms and complications.
Crohn’s Disease can affect both children and adults and often develops between the ages of 15 and 35, though it can begin earlier.
Symptoms may vary depending on the area affected and the severity, but common signs include:
Chronic abdominal pain and cramping
Persistent diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
Weight loss and poor appetite
Fatigue and weakness
Delayed growth in children
Fever during flare-ups
Anemia or nutrient deficiencies
Symptoms may come and go, with periods of flare-ups followed by remission.
We use advanced diagnostic tools including blood tests, stool analysis, colonoscopy, endoscopy, CT scan, and MRI enterography to confirm Crohn’s Disease and assess its severity.
Although Crohn’s Disease has no known cure, it can be effectively managed with a combination of:
Anti-inflammatory medications
Immunosuppressive therapy
Biologic drugs (targeted therapy)
Nutritional support and dietary management
Surgery in severe cases to remove affected portions of the bowel
