What is Hypospadias?

Hypospadias is a birth defect in which the urethral opening is located on the underside of the penis, rather than at its tip. It can occur anywhere along the penile shaft, scrotum, or even the perineum in severe cases. It often occurs with penile curvature (chordee) and an incomplete foreskin.

Why is Surgery Needed?

Without repair, hypospadias can lead to:

  • Cosmetic concerns and self-esteem issues

  • Problems with sexual function later in life

  • Risk of fertility complications

When is Hypospadias Repair Performed?

  • In some cases, later intervention may be necessary depending on the severity

Types of Hypospadias
