What Are Pancreatic Tumors?

Pancreatic tumors are abnormal growths that develop in the tissues of the pancreas. They are broadly classified as:

  • Benign (non-cancerous): Such as serous cystadenomas and insulinomas

  • Malignant (cancerous):

    • Pancreatic adenocarcinoma – the most common and aggressive type

    • Neuroendocrine tumors – slower-growing and often hormone-producing

    • Cystic neoplasms – such as mucinous cystic neoplasms (MCN)

Early diagnosis is critical, as many pancreatic tumors may not show symptoms until they are advanced.

Symptoms of Pancreatic Tumors

Symptoms can vary based on the tumor type and location, but may include:

  • Upper abdominal or back pain

  • Unexplained weight loss

  • Loss of appetite

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)

  • Diabetes onset or worsening

  • Fatigue or weakness

If any of these symptoms are persistent, especially in those over age 50 or with a family history, immediate evaluation is essential.
