What is Testicular Torsion?

Testicular Torsion occurs when the spermatic cord twists, cutting off the blood supply to the testicle. Without prompt treatment, the lack of blood flow can cause permanent damage or even loss of the testicle within 4 to 6 hours of onset. It most commonly affects teenagers but can happen at any age, including infancy.

Diagnosis and Emergency Treatment in Ghaziabad

Diagnostic methods include:

  • Physical examination

  • Doppler Ultrasound – to assess blood flow to the testicle

  • Urinalysis – to rule out infection

However, in many cases, clinical suspicion is enough to proceed directly to surgery, as every minute counts.

Treatment:

  • Emergency surgery (Detorsion and Orchiopexy):

    • The twisted testicle is untwisted and saved (if viable)

    • Both testicles are sutured to the scrotum to prevent recurrence

  • Orchiectomy (removal) may be necessary if the testicle is non-viable
